After orientation days studies at the School of Health Care and Social Work premises start on 7 September at 10.00 am. The school is located at the address Koskenalantie 17, 60220 Seinäjoki.

Confirmation and registration

To maintain the study place offered to you, you need to fill in and return the Confirmation Form for Academic Term Autumn 2011 by 2 August 2011 at 16.15 Finnish time (+2 GMT) at the latest to the Admissions Office of Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences. If you do not confirm to accept the study place by the designated deadline, the study place will be given to another student.

If you confirm to accept the study place, you also need to register for the academic year 2011-2012 for attendance or non-attendance using the Confirmation Form.

Original certificates

Universities of applied sciences check the original educational certificates that the admitted student has used when applying to the UAS. The admission is conditional until the original certificates are checked. If you have registered for attendance, you need to provide your original certificates during the first days of studies. The certificates will be given back to you after the checking.

Deadline to arrive

If you have registered for attendance, but have major trouble arriving in Finland/starting your studies on 5 September, please contact the Admissions Office. The definite deadline to arrive and begin the studies is Friday 16 September 2011. You also need to provide your original certificates on 16 September 2011 at the latest. If you cannot arrive by then, you need to postpone the commencement of studies by one year. In that case you need to change your registration information and register for non-attendance for 2011-2012 on 16 September 2011 at the latest. However, the orientation and lectures begin on the 5 September and it is very important to be present from the start.

Student apartment

You can apply for a student apartment of Property Ltd Marttilan kortteeri. You are advised to fill in the application on the internet: www.marttilankortteeri.fi. Please fill in the application as soon as possible to improve your chances of getting an apartment.

FSHS Health Care Services

Seinäjoki UAS is proud to announce that from 1 September 2011 we will have the high quality services of The Finnish Student Health Service (FSHS) available to our students. As a customer of FSHS you will get expert treatment quickly.
After paying the annual fee, you can have free appointments with general practitioners, public health nurses, physiotherapists' advisory sessions and your first oral health check-up for free. You will also have access to oral, mental and special health care services in extremely low price.

It is highly recommended that students use the FSHS services, because such high quality services are hard to find anywhere else with such low cost. Your studies in Nursing programme require health check-ups and tests that are easiest to get and most affordable through FSHS. You will have access to these beneficial health care services after paying the annual fee 42 euros. More information at: www.seamk.fi/fshs in English and at www.seamk.fi/yths in Finnish.

Certificate of Physical Examination

Non-Finnish citizens: Before arriving in Finland you need to visit a doctor/physician and have a physical examination. The physician needs to fill in the Certificate of Physical Examination and the Immunization Summary, that are enclosed in the admission letter. Please check if you need to take any vaccinations. When you arrive, the certificate will be submitted to the Student Health Care Services to help them to support your health.

RESIDENCE PERMIT FOR STUDIES

Students arriving from outside European Union: If you are a non-EU citizen you will need to apply for a residence permit for studies. The admission letter will include a Notice to students from the Finnish Immigration Service. For the residence permit application you need to enclose the Decision on student admission, an account of your income in Finland and an account of sufficient health insurance coverage. Further information at: www.migri.fi  -> English -> Students.

HEALTH INSURANCE

Students arriving from outside European Union: It is for your own best interest to acquire a health insurance that is even more comprehensive than the one required for the residence permit process. Therefore it is recommended to have an insurance with a minimum coverage of 60 000 euros. Higher education institutions in Finland are looking for a new, reliable and affordable health insurance to recommend to their international students. It is possible that this new insurance will be available in June 2011. We will send you E-mail as soon as we have any information about the insurance. Update on 8 July 2011: Please find information at www.marsh.be/SIP. Email has been sent to all admitted students.
