ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE RESULTS
Admission results will be announced by 29 May 2012 at the earliest and by 17 July 2012 at the latest. The list of admitted students will be published on the website www.seamk.fi. (Permission to publish your name will be asked on the application form.) Also, a letter and email will be sent to the admitted students.
One study place per term
Applicants are permitted to accept just one study place in just one programme at a higher education institution in Finland, starting in the same academic term (1 August - 31 December or 1 January - 31 July). This rule applies to all higher education included in joint applications. This rule does not prevent students from accepting a study place during another academic term.
Confirming to accept a study place
If you are admitted, you will receive a letter of admittance. The letter will include a Confirmation form.
You must send the Confirmation form to the higher education institution in which you wish to study by the indicated return date. Otherwise the study place will be given to another student. Students who have been admitted by 17 July 2012 must submit the Confirmation form
by 31 July 2012 at 16.15 Finnish time at the latest.
Confirmation of the study place is binding and cannot be altered or cancelled. If you have applied to several degree programmes, please wait until you have received all of the admission results as you can only accept one new opening. Once you have received all the results, select your programme and return the confirmation form. If you have applied with a qualification completed in Finland, please attach a copy of your certificate(s) to your confirmation form.
If you have been accepted to a higher option of preference, you cannot choose a programme from options of a lower preference. If the confirmation form arrives at the higher education institution after the indicated return date, the opening/study place will be given to another student.
Waiting list
You may also wish to be placed on the waiting list for a programme of higher preference if you have been admitted to a programme of a lower choice by 17 July 2012. You remain on the waiting list until 14 August 2012. By this date, you are either admitted to a reserve opening on the waiting list or to the programme initially offered to you.
The higher education institution will inform applicants admitted after 17 July 2012 about the date for sending the confirmation form. These applicants cannot be placed on the waiting list.
If you are not selected
If you have not been selected into any programme in the joint application process, you will receive a letter informing you of your points and your placement into possible reserve places for the options to which you have applied. Should study places become available, applicants in reserve places are chosen according to the level of their results. Find out about your possibilities of receiving an opening by directly contacting the institutions of higher education. You can always apply again next year and it is worth contacting the Admissions Offices or employment offices to plan how to improve your chances for admission.
Appeal
Applicants, who are not satisfied with the results of the student selection process, should first contact the UAS to which they have applied. If the matter is not resolved, applicants may appeal in writing to the executive board of the UAS in question. Such an appeal must be made within 14 days from the time the applicant had the possibility of receiving information on student selection.
REGISTERS USED IN THE JOINT APPLICATION
All the information related to every applicant’s application is entered into the UAS joint application register and student selection register. The National Board of Education acts as registrar. Further information on the registers can be found at www.admissions.fi.
REGISTRATION AS A STUDENT
All new students must register at the UAS in which they have chosen to study. Registration takes place at the same time students confirm they will accept the study place. Students may enrol as a non-attending/absent student for two academic years at the most during the entire duration of their studies, but only for one academic year at a time. Use this right with discretion, however, since extra time beyond two years will not be allocated.
