ADMISSION CRITERIA AND APPLICATION PROCEDURES IN 2012

Application period
The application period starts on
9 January 2012 and ends on
4 May 2012 at 15.30 (3.30 pm) Finnish time (+2 GMT).
The paper application form can be found as an attachment on the right. Applying to master-level programmes conducted in English is not possible through joint application.
Eligibility for the programme is given by
- a higher education degree completed in Finland or a higher education degree in the field of business and administration completed outside Finland
- three years of work experience in business and administration after completing the higher education degree.
- Applicants who have completed a Finnish vocational college diploma or higher vocational diploma (opisto- tai ammatillisen korkea-asteen tutkinto) before the completion of their higher education degree, may also take into account the work experience gained before the higher education degree.
To demonstrate his/her eligibility, the applicant must attach copies of the certificates used for applying to the application form.
The required attachments are:
- Copy of original Bachelor's degree certificate in the original language.
- Authorised translation (in English, Swedish or Finnish) of the bachelor's degree certificate/diploma if the original degree certificate is not issued in Finnish, Swedish or English. The translation must have the translator’s signature and stamp.
- Copy of the transcript of academic records in the original language. (courses of the Bachelor's degree).
- Authorised translation (in English, Swedish or Finnish) of transcript if the original study transcript is not issued in Finnish, Swedish or English. The translation must have the translator’s signature and stamp.
- Copies of testimonials: testimonials of the work experience entered on the application form. The testimonials need to be in English, Swedish or Finnish. Only work experience that is documented by the employer’s testimonial can be accepted. The testimonials / work certificates should show starting and closing date as well as description of work tasks. If you have worked part time, the work certificates should indicate the number of work hours per month. 150 work hours or 20 working days (the minimum length of one full working day is 7 hours) compares with one month of work experience. Work experience gained as an entrepreneur, in one’s own or family business, can be documented by a certificate from an unchallengeable third party, such as a bookkeeper.
Applicants, who are applying with a qualification completed elsewhere than in Finland and who are not a citizen of an EU/EEA country, must also provide proof of their English language skills by the end of the application period. Further information below in the chapter “English language skills”.
The certificate copies must arrive at the Admissions Office by the end of the application period, 4 May 2012 by 3.15 pm (+2 GMT) at the latest. The application and attachments must be posted or delivered to the Admissions Office. Faxed or scanned copies are not accepted.
Admission procedures
All applicants who have demonstrated their eligibility are invited to the entrance examination. The final selection is based on the total score consisting of entrance examination and work experience in the field of study.
The entrance examination of the Degree Programme in International Business Management completed at Central Ostrobothnia UAS in spring 2012 will be accepted by Seinäjoki UAS.
Admission is conditional until Seinäjoki UAS has checked the original certificates and testimonials and the information that the applicant has given during the application period. Seinäjoki UAS has the right to cancel selection if the applicant has provided incorrect information or if the original certificates are not submitted by the stipulated date.

Entrance examination
The entrance examination is conducted in English. The invitation to the examination will include further details on the content of the examination.
The entrance examination in Finland is arranged on
24 April 2012 for those who have submitted their application by 30 March and on
16 May 2012 for those who have submitted their application by 4 May.
Work experience in the field of study
The three years’ work experience in the field of business and administration that is required for eligibility does not accrue to work experience points. Work experience in the field of business and administration that exceeds the eligibility requirement accrues one point per two months’ experience.
Work experience completed before the end of application period, i.e. 4 May 2012, is taken into account. Work experience does not have to be continuous or earned with the same employer. Practical training or on-the-job training that is included in the degree used for application is not counted as work experience. To gain the work experience points, the applicant must enclose copies of testimonials with the application form.
English language skills
Applicants, who are applying with a qualification completed elsewhere than in Finland and who are not a citizen of an EU/EEA country, must also provide proof of their English language skills. The proof must be delivered to the Admissions Office of Seinäjoki UAS by the end of the application period.
The minimum requirements for proving the level of skills in English are as follows:
- IELTS, academic level 6.0
- TOEFL 550 paper-based test/ TOEFL 79-80 Internet-based test
- Level 4 in English language skills on the Finnish National Certificate of Language Proficiency test (Yleinen kielitutkinto).
- grade C or above in the Finnish Matriculation Exam in an advanced level English
In addition, the following are also accepted as proof of sufficient English language skills:
- upper secondary education or a bachelor’s or master’s degree completed in English in the United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, the United States, Canada, Australia or New Zealand
- a bachelor’s or master’s degree conducted in English in a European Union/European Economic Area -country
TOEFL scores are only accepted directly from the Educational Testing Service. The code number for the Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences is 1305. Please use this code number when indicating Seinäjoki UAS as a score recipient. Scores will be sent to us directly from the Educational Testing Service.
Both TOEFL and IELTS test results are valid for two years while the National Certificate of Language Proficiency does not have a set date of validity.
The English proficiency of applicants who have a qualification from Finland or who are citizens of EU/EEA countries, will be evaluated in the entrance examination. Only applicants who have sufficient English language skills can be admitted.
Further information concerning admission
The results of student selection are announced by 25 May 2012 at the latest. Admitted students must confirm they will accept their study place by 8 June 2012 by 3.30 pm Finnish time at the latest. New students must also register for the academic year at the same time students confirm they will accept the study place.
