Admission criteria

The student admission is based on

  • previous UAS degree studies, that are suitable to the study option
  • a study plan uploaded to the application form
  • studies completed in Open UAS are taken into consideration, if the studies can be recognized as part of the degree in the degree programme one is applying to

If there are more applicants to be admitted than study places, applicants will be ranked according to the grade point average of previous studies. The grade point average needs to be entered to the application form during the application period. If this criteria fail to produce a difference between tied applicants, all of the equally ranked applicants will be admitted.

Tuition fees and scholarships

There is a tuition fee applicable to students, who are not citizens of countries of the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland. The tuition fee is EUR 7000 per academic year. However, a scholarship, which covers 30 % of the annual tuition fee, will be automatically granted when you accept the study place. So you only need to pay 70 % of the tuition fee.

Document proving exemption of tuition fee

You are exempted from paying tuition fees if you have one of the documents mentioned below. The document must have been valid on 1 August 2021.

  • Passport or identity card to indicate the citizenship of EU/EEA/Switzerland. However, citizens of Finland do not need to provide a copy of their passport/ID.
  • Continuous residence permit card in Finland, Type A permit
  • Permanent residence permit card in Finland, Type P permit
  • EU residence permit for third-country citizens with long-term residence permit card in Finland (Type P-EU)
  • EU Blue Card granted in Finland
  • EU Family Member’s Residence Card in Finland
  • Proof from the Finnish Immigration Service that you have registered, or applied to register, your EU right to residence in Finland (UK-citizens)

When you accept the study place, you also need to register for the academic term for attendance. You will be granted the study right for one year plus for the ongoing academic term. You can continue your studies as a degree student as soon as you have accepted the study place and registered for attendance. It is not possible to register for non-attendance or apply for potential discretionary extension to complete your studies.

The academic term is either autumn term 1 August–31 December OR spring term 1 January–31 July. Further information: One study place per term provision
