Entrance examinations for Nursing

Entrance Examination for Bachelor of Health Care, Nursing

In order to comply with the Finnish government’s recommendations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Bachelor’s Degree Programmes in Nursing/Social Services’ entrance examination will not be arranged as planned on 30th and 31st March 2020. To comply with the Government´s recommendations the entrance exams have been changed from contact exams to online exams.

The exams will now be fully online on 3.4.2020 from 9.30 to 11.30 (Finnish time). For the examination you will need a computer, and an internet connection. In addition, to demonstrate your oral Finnish and English skills, you will be required to create a video with your computer or mobile phone during the examination. Further details will be sent to the applicants by email.

Content of the online entrance exam in 2020

The entrance examination consists of one online examination day and will be arranged on 3rd April 2020. The entrance examination is divided into two parts:

Exam part 1

Part 1 of the exam is completed online on the applicant’s own computer.

The oral language skills part are two video assignments, which are both completed online during the exam on the applicant’s own computer or mobile phone. It is essential that your identification can be read from the English and Finnish Oral Demonstration videos. If the identification cannot be read, it is a criterion for being disqualified from the whole exam.

All parts of the exam part 1 (Theory exam, written Finnish language skills test, written English language skills test) must be passed to be eligible for part 2. Applicants will be placed in a ranking order based on the results of the exam part 1. The video assignments (Part 2) will be assessed only from the 40 best applicants who have passed all parts of exam part 1. The assessment of the video assignments will continue until there are 40 applicants who have passed both parts of the exam.

There is no pre-reading material for the exam and previous years’ entrance examinations are not available. Once you have received your username and password, and the instructions for signing in, you are strongly recommended to practice before the examination on 3.4.2020 by logging into the examination platform. The practice exercises are not evaluated.

Exam evaluation

  • Theory exam: 0-40 points, minimum accepted 10 points (exam parts 1a)
  • Written English language test: evaluation pass or fail (exam part 1b) Minimum accepted level B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
  • Written Finnish language test: evaluation pass or fail (exam part 1c) Minimum accepted level B1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
  • Oral English language skills: evaluation pass or fail or not assessed (exam part 2a) Minimum accepted level B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
  • Oral Finnish language skills: evaluation pass or fail or not assessed (exam part 2b) Minimum accepted level B1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages

All parts of the entrance examination must be completed and accepted to be taken into consideration for admission.  An accepted applicant is required to have sufficient physical, mental and social capacity according to the SORA legislation.

The list of co-operating Nursing degree programmes

The following degree programmes have a joint entrance examination:

  • Laurea UAS, Bachelor of Health Care degree programme in Nursing
  • Laurea UAS, Bachelor of Social Services degree programme in Social Services
  • Metropolia UAS, Bachelor of Health Care degree programme in Nursing
  • SeAMK (Seinäjoki UAS), Bachelor of Health Care degree programme in Nursing
  • TAMK UAS, Bachelor of Health Care degree programme in Nursing

Applicants will be invited only to one entrance examination, either to Laurea, Metropolia, SeAMK or TAMK depending on which one is the highest option on applicant’s application form. Results of the entrance examination will be considered in all above mentioned degree programmes. The entrance examination is compulsory for all applicants and it cannot be compensated with any other exam.

Entrance examination invitation and venue is online

Applicants will be invited only to one entrance examination, either to Laurea, Metropolia, SeAMK or TAMK depending on which one is the highest option on applicant’s application form. Only those eligible applicants who have informed in their applications that they have the required skills in the Finnish language will be invited to the entrance examination. The entrance examination will be arranged online.

Individual Arrangements for Entrance Exam

If you need individual arrangements for the entrance examination, fill in the Application form and submit it with the required enclosures to SeAMK Admission Services by 29 January 2020 (3 pm Finnish time).

If your need for individual arrangements emerge after the deadline, please deliver the application to the admissions office(s) as soon as possible.
