Education
We educate specialists, who act responsibly, and who have abilities to promote the principles of sustainable development in working life and society. We educate enthusiastic, critically thinking and research-oriented change makers – the makers of the future. Therefore, we take care of our students’ strong responsibility competence and we constantly develop the expertise of our teachers and other staff.
Our goals are:
- We strengthen students’ sustainability and responsibility competencies.
- We integrate sustainability perspectives and competencies more closely into teaching.
- We strengthen the impact of SEAMK in sustainable development education.
- We develop goals and indicators to monitor the effectiveness of teaching from a sustainability perspective.
How do we implement responsibility in education?
We strengthen sustainability and responsibility in education.
We will strengthen the student’s responsibility competence by increasing studies of sustainability and responsibility for all students, starting in the autumn 2026. The starting points of our education are the competences related to sustainability. In connection with the curricula update, the sustainability theme will be strengthened in teaching on a field-specific basis. We will utilise the expertise gained in projects, as well as cooperation with companies in sustainability and responsibility studies.
Our goal is to offer a wide range of diverse and accessible education offering that enables everyone to develop their skills. Our education is easily accessible to everyone through the open university of applied sciences. We offer diverse learning environments – contact and online studies, flexible pathway studies together with micro-credentials, from which students can build their own study paths. We will also increase our teaching in English.
An innovation week, during which our students receive a concrete challenge or a problem to solve from companies and organisations, is included in bachelor studies at SEAMK. Real challenges related to responsibility can be included. We follow the implementation of our goals through student and personal surveys.
The sustainability and responsibility theme will be discussed at a morning coffee event for staff and in a regularly published internal newsletters that promote teaching of the sustainability topic.
Our university of applied studies is a part of the European HEROES alliance, together with several other institutions of higher education. The collaboration promotes sustainability by providing students with a wider and more multidisciplinary learning environment. The students will learn to use digital and green solutions in a way that supports the wellbeing of people, companies and nature. Multinational virtual teams and challenge-based learning help students to develop practical skills and understanding that will be needed in promoting sustainability in working life and in strengthening regional resiliencies.
