Privacy Policy Statement

With the help of the Privacy Policy Statement, we describe the processing of your personal data at Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences. Personal data means all information relating to an identifiable natural person. The requirements for the Privacy Policy Statement come from the Regulation (EU General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679), which guarantees different rights to the person whose data are processed. The rights depend on the basis on which the personal data are processed. This Statement meets the requirement set by the EU General Data Protection Regulation to inform the data subject.

Processing of personal data at Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences

Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences processes personal data in order to carry out its task defined by the University of Applied Sciences Act, which deals with the personal data of students, staff and various stakeholders.

According to the University of Applied Sciences Act, the task of a university of applied sciences is to provide higher education for professional expert tasks and to support the student’s professional growth, based on the requirements of working life and its development, as well as research, artistic and cultural starting points.

The task of the University of Applied Sciences is also to carry out applied research, development and innovation activities, as well as artistic activities that serve the higher education, promote working life and regional development and reform the economic structure of the region.

In carrying out its tasks, the university of applied sciences must promote lifelong learning. These are statutory tasks. The purpose is to fulfill legal obligations and the efficiency of services. Only the data necessary for the performance of the university’s task, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the university of applied sciences is registered in SeAMK’s various systems.

In order to carry out our teaching functions, such as organising teaching, collecting and maintaining study and degree information, and providing student services, we need to process a variety of data from which you can be identified, i.e. personal information. This makes you a data subject and us a data controller, i.e. a body that controls the processing of your personal data for this purpose.

Privacy Statements

The Privacy Statements of the Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences are published on this webpage.

Some of the statements are more extensive register and privacy statements than the register statements, which contain information on the rights of data subjects in addition to the information in the register statement. Some are in the form of information system statements. The systems described in the information system statements are mainly systems that do not themselves contain personal data, but function, for example, as a user interface to systems that contain personal data.

Review right

Everyone has the right to check whether information about him or her has been stored in the personal registers of Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences and, if so, what information has been stored in the personal registers. The review right is personal. The request for review must be made in writing and signed by hand or the request can be made in person. You can review your own personal data free of charge once a year.

If the data subject detects an error in the data while reviewing the data, the data subject may request that the error is corrected. The Privacy Statements explain how the information about yourself can be reviewed and how you can request the correction of an error in your own information. Data Protection Officer

According to the Data Protection Regulation, Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences must have a designated Data Protection Officer. The task of the Data Protection Officer is to monitor the legality of the processing of personal data and to help Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences to implement its data protection obligations.

The Data Protection Officer acts as a contact point for the Supervisory Authority and as a support to the staff and data subjects in matters related to the processing of personal data.
