What is a double degree?

An international double degree (DD) is a growing trend in the higher level education. Currently, bachelor-students in business management, international business and automation engineering have an opportunity to achieve a double degree. Also, master students in international business management have an opportunity for a double degree. By taking two degrees in two different European countries you can strengthen your competitive advantage in your future career.

Currently SeAMK has 18 double degree agreements with higher education institutions in the following countries: Bulgaria, China, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Russia and Spain.

Double Degree studies in Business Management / International Business

Content of studies:

  • Approximately 60 ECTS of your courses are studied abroad
  • Practical training / internship conducted internationally
  • Bachelor thesis written in English
  • Maturity test in English

The double degree programme requires a student to study one academic year at the double degree partner institution. The structure of curricula and teaching contents have been compared between the two institutions and academic achievements from abroad will be acknowledged by the home institution. The courses to be completed are defined in a personal study plan (learning agreement). Also the practical training of five months shall be done internationally. The Bachelor thesis has to be written in English under supervision/evaluation of academic staff from both the home and host institution.

Graduates of the programme get their Bachelor certificate from both partner institutions. This shows the future employers that they have gone through a truly international education and thus have acquired both professional expertise and intercultural competence – the two key qualifications of future employees working in a globalised world.

Double Degree Studies in Automation Engineering

SeAMK degree programme in automation engineering has a double degree agreement with Aschaffenburg University of Applied Sciences, Germany.

The double degree students of Aschaffenburg University of Applied Sciences spend the second year of study at Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences. The study topics include for example electronics, programming of control and automation systems as well as laboratory and project works and the studies are conducted in English.

The double degree students of Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences spend the third year of study at Aschaffenburg University of Applied Sciences. The study topics include for example measurement technology, computer science, technical systems technology and innovation management and the studies are conducted in English.

The double degree studies also include practical training/internship, a thesis, a maturity test and other courses at the home institution according to a study plan. Practical training can be done either in the student’s home country or abroad. If the practical training period is conducted in Seinäjoki region or in Metropol Region Rhein-Main, the student will get assistance to find a suitable training place. The thesis work is supervised/evaluated by a academic staff from both institutions.

Double Degree Studies in International Business Management

SeAMK master level degree programme in international business management has a double degree agreement with Aschaffenburg University of Applied Sciences, Germany.

In order to earn a double degree in master level, the student is required to has at least two years of working experience after BBA degree.

How to Apply?

Applying for double degree studies is always based on a specific double degree agreement between SeAMK and its partner university/university of applied sciences.

Contact the International Coordinator/International Office at your home institution and get the permission to apply for double degree studies at Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences. Application requirements

  • You are a registered student in a double degree partner university of SeAMK, or at SeAMK.
  • You are willing to spend at least one year of your studies abroad (bachelor students)
  • Your study plan is approved by your faculty

Incoming double degree students apply to SeAMK via SoleMove system as other incoming students, but with double degree marking in the application form.

Obligatory healthcare fee for double degree and degree students in higher education starting 1 January 2021

Starting from 1 January 2021, degree and double degree student health care services are provided by the Finnish Student Health Service (FSHS /in Finnish: YTHS) in the universities of applied sciences in Finland. The FSHS offers equal student healthcare services for all degree and double degree students in universities of applied sciences.

According to the legislation, all registered and attending students who are completing a bachelor’s or master’s degree, or a double degree, are obligated to pay an FSHS healthcare fee, except students, who have social security coverage from an EU/EEA country or from Switzerland or the United Kingdom. They do not have to pay the healthcare fee but are allowed to use the services of the Finnish Student Health Service.

Other students must pay the fee every semester from the acceptance to graduation from SeAMK. This means that a student must pay the fee until graduating from SeAMK, even after returning to one’s home university.
