Double Degree in Automation Engineering, Bachelor
Study in two countries. Graduate with two degrees.
SEAMK’s Bachelor-level double degree programme in Automation Engineering offers you a unique opportunity to complete two bachelor’s degrees simultaneously – one from SEAMK and one from a trusted international partner university. By studying part of your degree abroad, you gain valuable international experience, intercultural competence, and strong professional skills for a global career.
The double degree enables you to combine high-quality education with meaningful international exposure – preparing you for today’s global labour market.
All double degree studies are based on active double degree agreements between SEAMK and double degree partner institutions.
In the field of engineering, SEAMK has a double degree agreement with a partner university in Germany. See the list of all double degree partner institutions on the International partner universities webpage.(Opens in a new window)
The following students can apply to the programme:
- SEAMK degree students registered in a Bachelor programme in the field of Automation Engineering.
Those who are interested in a double degree must first discuss the matter with the Head of Programme and the Study Counsellor.
After double degree eligibility approval by their own degree programme, students can contact SEAMK International Education Services for further information about the double degree requirements, partner universities and the application process. - Students enrolled at a double degree partner university of SEAMK. Before applying for the double degree at SEAMK, the student must first be eligible and approved for the double degree studies by their home institution. The English language skills of students should be at least on level B2 on the European language scale.
The bachelor double degree (DD) programme requires one academic year of studies at the double degree partner institution. The structure of curricula and the content of teaching have been compared between the two institutions and the academic achievements are acknowledged to agreed extent. The courses a student needs to complete are defined in a personal study plan called Learning Agreement.
The double degree includes 30 ECTS of practical training. The bachelor thesis has to be written in English, under the supervision and evaluation of the two collaborating institutions.
A simplified example of what the bachelor double degree studies in the field of engineering include:
- One academic year of studies at the host institution
- 30 ECTS of practical training
- Bachelor thesis written in English
- Maturity test
A student will first graduate from their home institution and after that from the host institution.
Each institution will check that their all their degree requirements are met before awarding the degree certificate.

IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE COURSE SELECTION:
The academic year of SEAMK is divided into five (5) periods, with designated start and end dates. In the Double Degree Programme in Automation Engineering, for each period, a student is recommended to choose courses for their Learning Agreement either from course list option A or course list option B.
Option A course list is the same as in the exchange programme “Professional Studies in Technology” and studied together also with the third year Automation Engineering degree students of SEAMK, while option B courses are studied together with the second year Automation Engineering degree students of SEAMK.
The option choice (A or B) can be different for each period, for example courses could be chosen from course list option B during the first period, then from list option A during second period, option A during third period, and so on. If courses are chosen and followed from only one course list option (either A or B) during each period, then the lesson timetables will not overlap during the studies at SEAMK. If a student needs more courses, which overlap between the options, then they will also overlap in lesson timetables – this is possible to do if necessary, but also requires more work and schedule modification from both the student and the involved lecturers. It is important to follow the course requirements of the home institution for the completion of the double degree. You can stay in touch with the contact persons listed on this page in case of questions.
In total, each semester should include about 30 ECTS, or 60 ECTS per academic year, or as defined by the sending DD partner institution.
Please note that changes to the course selection during the academic year at SEAMK can only be made with justified academic reasons, and must always be approved by both the sending and the receiving institution, to ensure completion of the DD.
