SEAMK awarded at ESCI+ Consultation Conference in Brussels
The ESCI+ Consultation Conference took place in Brussels on 11 June 2026, bringing together higher education institutions, public authorities, student representatives and digital service providers to discuss the future of the European Student Card Initiative (ESCI) beyond 2027. The aim of the ESCI initiative is to digitalise and simplify student mobility and administrative processes across European universities.
The conference marked an important step in preparations for the next Erasmus+ programme period, 2028–2034. Discussions focused on the results of the ESCI consultation process and on how the initiative can better reflect the needs, experiences and expectations of students, higher education institutions and their partners across Europe.
Based on the presentations and discussions, the future ESCI+ framework is expected to place stronger emphasis on integrated and coordinated governance, transparency, user-centricity and continuity. Participants highlighted the importance of publishing a clear roadmap at an early stage, as this would improve predictability and support more effective resource allocation among stakeholders. The atmosphere at the conference was open and constructive, leaving room for both feedback and critical reflection. A shared objective emerged clearly from the discussions: to make student mobility processes smoother and simpler across Europe.
At the end of the conference, SEAMK was officially recognised as one of 32 ESCI Champions. The selected champions represent higher education institutions and student unions from across the European Education Area that have demonstrated outstanding implementation of the European Student Card Initiative. The champions were selected in summer 2025 for the 2025–2027 period.
