Upcoming International Week: Digitalization and Sustainability in Higher Education and RDI

category: Cooperate with Us

Digitalization and Sustainability in Higher Education are the themes for the virtual SeAMK International Week organized on 15-19.2.2021. The role of higher educational institutions (HEI) in regional, European and global level development is highlighted, for example, in educating and training future and current workforce, especially in sustainable production and consumption. Through the education, HEIs shift the mindset of citizens, including entrepreneurs, from linear to circular. With the extensive research and development work, HEIs tackle global sustainability and digitalization related challenges and build-up the resilience of the societies.

During the week, the DG Education and DG Connect from the European Commission will elaborate on Sustainability and Digitalization in Europe and for HEIs. They will focus on the new Erasmus+ Programme for 2021-2027, Digital Europe Programme and the role of HEIs in it, as well as on European Universities Initiative enhancing HEI collaboration tackling the societal challenges. The Finnish National Agency for Education will highlight the role of higher educational institutions in achieving the sustainable development goals. SeAMK Principal Lecturers/Senior Researchers will present our key competence and RDI areas in digitalization and sustainability vis-à-vis growth entrepreneurship, digital manufacturing and industrial Internet of Things, health technology and food safety. SeAMK’s international partners – such as Tallinn University of Technology (EE), Chiba University (JP), and Smart Sensors 4 Agri-Food – European Thematic Smart Specialization Partnership – present their expertise in sustainability and digitalization vis-à-vis education, research and development.

The timing of the virtual SeAMK International Week is excellent. The European Commission is commencing the Horizon Europe Programme as well as the Erasmus+ Programme for 2021-2027. Thus, the week provides opportunities to discuss new collaboration opportunities with international partners representing not only higher educational institutions but also European wide networks.
