General Structure of the Degree Programmes

There are five Bachelor-level programmes provided in the School of Technology. They are taught in Finnish but there also some courses available in English in these programmes.

The study programmes consist of Basic Studies, Professional Studies, practical work and a Final Engineering Project or Thesis. The engineering Degrees consist of 240 credits (ECTS). Practical training accounts for 30 credits or 60 credits. The work involves lectures at the School of Technology and independent study, including preparation for examinations.

The studies and lectures are organised as study units or courses, which are grouped into module structures relating to different subject areas. The study units or courses are either compulsory, alternative or free-choice studies. The same study unit can be part of several modules. However, the student can only include the earned credits in one particular module.

The Professional Studies consist of Common Professional Studies, Advanced Professional Studies of the Specialization Lines and Elective Professional Studies. The Basic Studies and Common Professional Studies must be completed first. The Final Engineering Project or Thesis is completed during the final year.

Specialization Lines

At least one Specialization Line must be chosen in case the Degree Programme has several Specialization Lines. The number of the students in each Specialization Line is restricted. The selection criteria are based on the student’s success in their previous studies. A Specialization Line can be offered every other year in case the number of applicants is insufficient. The Specialization Line is selected by the spring term of the second year.

Background studies

Most of the studies are the same for students with Matriculation or Technician-Engineer Certificates. Any differences in the requirements are mentioned in the Study Guide. Students who have previously completed higher education or polytechnic-level studies may apply for exemption. The exempted studies must correspond to the objectives of the courses of the University of Applied Sciences.

Eligibility for further studies
All the Bachelor Degree Programmes give the students the eligibility for Master-level programmes.

Aschaffenburg, Germany - Seinäjoki, Finland

The Double Degree Programme in Engineering (Aschaffenburg-Seinäjoki) is aimed at the students of the following degree programmes:

  • Electrical Engineering and Information Technology students of Aschaffenburg UAS
  • Mechatronics students of Aschaffenburg UAS
  • Automation Engineering students of Seinäjoki UAS
  • Information technology students of Seinäjoki UAS

To apply you need to be a student within one of these four degree programmes.

Why a double degree?

The students of the Double Degree Programme in Engineering graduate to two European engineering degrees with one study programme.

The programme offers students a chance to spend one year of their studies at the respective partner university, Aschaffenburg University of Applied Sciences or Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences. The teaching contents have been matched between the two institutions and academic achievements from abroad will be acknowledged by the home institution.

The programme includes a personalized study plan and an option for practical training in both countries.

Graduates of the programme get their Bachelor diploma from both partner institutions. This shows the future employers that they have gone through an international training and thus have acquired both professional expertise and intercultural competence - the two key qualifications of future engineers working in a globalised world.

The structure of studies

The first year of studies includes basic and professional studies at the home university of applied sciences.

The second year the students of Aschaffenburg study at Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences, Finland. The study topics include for example electronics, programming of control and automation systems as well as laboratory and project works and the studies are conducted in English language. Studies start in September and include Finnish language and culture preparation for the German students.

The third year the students of Seinäjoki study at Aschaffenburg University of Applied Sciences, Germany. The study topics include for example measurement technology, computer science, technical systems, technology and innovation management and the studies are conducted in English language. Studies start in September and include German language and culture preparation for the Finnish students.

The rest of the studies include practical training, a thesis and courses at the home institution according to a study plan. Practical training can be done either in the student’s home country or abroad. If the practical training period is conducted in Seinäjoki region or in Metropol Region Rhein-Main, the student will get assistance to find a suitable training place. The thesis work is supervised by a lecturer from both Aschaffenburg UAS and Seinäjoki UAS.
