Career paths at SEAMK

Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences has adopted internal career paths (tenure tracks) and the possibility of new titles and job descriptions. SEAMK is committed to the development of career paths in the CoARA action plan, in the performance agreement with the Ministry of Education and Culture and in SEAMK’s strategic development programmes.

Currently possible titles are:

  • Principal Lecturer in Research
  • Research Lecturer
  • Senior Expert
  • Senior Researcher
  • Senior Project Manager
  • Expert Senior Lecturer

Criteria

  • Doctorate degree, preferably with a recognised qualification as a docent or professor
  • At least 4 years of full-time senior lecturer teaching experience at SEAMK
  • Leader of a profile area or otherwise a critical expertise for a profile area
  • RDI work plays a very important role in the senior lecturer’s working time plan (at least 900–
    1 000 hours on a continuous basis)
  • Demonstrations:
  1. level of competence equivalent to international standards
  2. external funding (domestic and international)
  3. ability to lead and publicise the researcher team’s activities
  4. scientific (journals published annually) and popular publishing activities
  5. building domestic and international networks in the field of expertise (networks realised in the form of RDI cooperation for SEAMK) and the ability to cooperate well in different directions

Job description of Principal Lecturer in Research

  • In addition to the job description of a Senior Lecturer, a specific role as a leader of a profile area otherwise playing a critical role in a profile area
  • An entrepreneurial approach to external funding, internationalisation, publications, networking and raising the profile of SEAMK for the whole research team
  • Active role in the development of a profile area at regional, national and international level

 

Criteria

  • Doctorate or licentiate degree
  • At least 4 years of full-time experience at SEAMK
  • Demonstrations:
  1. on the acquisition of external financing
  2. the significant role of RDI in the work of teachers and the continuous (at least 4 years) evidence of this
  3. publications (scientific and popular)

Job description of Research Lecturer

  • In addition to the role of Lecturer, a specific role in the acquisition of external research funding, the implementation of RDI projects as a responsible person and the production of publications.

Criteria

  • Doctorate degree
  • Leader of a profile area or an emerging profile area, or otherwise a critical expertise for these
  • At least 4 years of full-time experience at SEAMK
  • Demonstrations:
  1. the international level of excellence in his/her discipline
  2. obtaining external funding (domestic and international)
  3. ability to lead a team of researchers
  4. scientific and popular publications
  5. building domestic and international networks in his/her field of expertise (realised for SEAMK through RDI cooperation) and the ability to cooperate well in different directions

 Job description of Senior Expert

  • In addition to normal RDI work, a specific role as a leader in a profile area or an emerging profile area, or otherwise playing a critical role from their point of view of these areas
  • An entrepreneurial approach to external funding, internationalisation, publications, networks and raising the profile of SEAMK for the whole research team
  • An active role in the development of a profile area at regional, national and international level

Criteria

  • Doctorate degree
  • At least 3 years of full-time experience at SEAMK
  • Demonstrations:
  1. the level of excellence at the national forefront of his/her discipline
  2. obtaining external funding
  3. accountability and successful implementation of research and other RDI projects
  4. publishing activities (scientific and popular)
  5. the ability to build networks (national and international) and to cooperate well in different directions

Job description of Senior Reseacher

  • Obtaining external research funding
  • Responsible implementation of RDI projects
  • Producing scientific and popular publications
  • Active networking
  • Raising the profile of SEAMK on the basis of his/her own expertise

Criteria

  • Master’s degree
  • At least 4 years of full-time experience at SEAMK (both fixed-term and indefinite employment relationships are taken into account)
  • Employment contract of indefinite duration at the time of appointment
  • Demonstrations at SEAMK (for the last 4 years):
  1. active project planning and success in securing external funding (Requires projects from multiple funding sources. International projects will be considered an advantage.)
  2. experience of acting as a project leader (project manager) for RDI projects in several projects and successful project implementation (international projects would also be an advantage)
  3. active publication activities (at least 5 per year)
  4. active networking (companies and other professional organisations and other project partner organisations) and the ability to cooperate well in different directions

Criteria

Basic requirements for the position (all must be met):

  • At least 4 years of full-time experience at SEAMK (both fixed-term and indefinite employment relationships are taken into account)
  • Employment contract of indefinite duration at the time of appointment
  • Pedagogical qualifications
  • Extensive teaching experience in different types of education and in the roles of teacher and/or instructor (experience in at least three different types of education and roles, such as online teaching, teaching international groups, open study modules, cross-disciplinary studies, group instructor, thesis supervisor)
  • Consistently good student feedback (average of student feedback in Pepi over the previous two years)
  • Systematic development of teaching (demonstrated through practical examples/teaching portfolio, such as the systematic development process of own courses, participation in curriculum work and/or the implementation of teaching methods produced in projects as part of teaching at SEAMK)
  • Ability to collaborate in teams and networks (practical examples, such as multidisciplinary teaching activities in SEAMK’s various degree programs, participation in project work, active collaboration with stakeholders in the field)

In addition, at least 80% of the following specific competence criteria:

  • In-depth pedagogical competence and/or special qualifications and sharing them within the work community, nationally and/or internationally (demonstrated, for example, by a separate certificate and/or work samples)
  • Provision of open teaching or learning materials and/or study modules/courses nationally and/or internationally (at least 5 open study modules available (may be produced in collaboration, but own contribution must be demonstrable) during the previous two years, and evidence of their use)
  • Active publishing, at least three professional publications accepted in the publication data collection or one scientific and one professional publication per year during the previous three years.
  • Excellent digital skills and their development in teaching (including online mass courses, pedagogical development of online degree programs, versatile use of artificial intelligence in teaching development)
  • Excellent international expertise (practical examples, such as teaching international groups, mobility, presenting at international conferences, or international networking)
  • Excellent networking skills (practical examples of systematic cooperation with national and international networks relevant to SEAMK) The basic requirements and special skills are assessed on the basis of the last three years.
