Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences (SeAMK) is the best university of applied sciences in Finland for the third time in a row. The ranking is based on the national feedback survey of the universities of applied sciences (AVOP), which is answered by students in the graduation phase.

As in 2020 and 2021, SeAMK ranks first when looking at both bachelor’s degrees and bachelor’s and master’s degrees together. SeAMK’s overall result was strengthened by the excellent development in the master’s degrees, where the previous year’s tenth place improved by five places. The rankings of the universities of applied sciences have been calculated based on the average scores of all approximately one hundred questions in the survey.

SeAMK ranked first in almost all twelve question groups of the survey. The evaluations of students who have completed a bachelor’s degree gave SeAMK the number one position in the following areas: content of the studies, learning environments, study support services, working life connections and study satisfaction. SeAMK received the second highest position in the areas of internationality, work life counselling, internship and thesis.

“When we are making decisions at SeAMK, we always ask the question, what is best for our students. In addition, our personnel is extremely committed. Of course, we are humbly grateful that we are number one in Finland for the third time”, rejoices Jaakko Hallila, President and CEO of SeAMK.

Ostrobothnia region had a double victory in the survey, as Centria University of Applied Sciences from Kokkola came second in the combined results of the bachelor’s and master’s degrees.

SeAMK’s degree programmes also perform well in the national comparison. The community spirit, the quality of education and working life connections at a commendable level

The sections of the graduation feedback survey contain several individual questions. SeAMK ranked in the top two in numerous questions.

In individual questions, SeAMK received strategically important results for bachelor-level education in community spirit, connections to working life, and the internationality of studies, which the students rated as worthy of the national first place.

For many years, the question related to the services and activities of the student union SAMO to support studies has been a subject of joy for SeAMK. In this question, SeAMK’s student union SAMO has a long line of first places.

“We are very pleased that we have once again met the needs of the students and we can be truly satisfied and happy with this number one position. The student is number 1 for us now and in the future, and once again this result shows that we have done things correctly and from the right perspectives”, says Jani Erkkonen, Executive Director of the student union SAMO.

About the questionnaire

The questionnaire was developed in close cooperation with the Rectors’ Conference of Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences (ARENE), the Union of Students in Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences (SAMOK), Foundation for Research on Studying and Education (OTUS) and the Ministry for Education and Culture. The responsibility for development and implementation of the questionnaire lies with Arene.
