Dean's Greeting

In Southern Ostrobothnia, the School of Health Care and Social Work has long played the leading role in the higher education in the health and social field. We train our students to meet the challenges of the future. Our education is characterised by research-oriented teaching and learning, networking and utilisation of new technology. Even stronger internationalisation is one of the most important goals in the nearest future.

Our activities

The School of Health Care and Social Work has approximately 1000 students and 80 qualified staff members. We offer high quality
- Bachelor-level education in Elderly Care, Nursing, Public Health Nursing, Physiotherapy and Social Work, and
- Master-level education in Social Work and in the Development and Management of Health Care and Social work

In addition to the Degree Programmes, we offer a wide variety of professional studies and further and supplementary education.

All the degree programmes offer the international students of our partner universities some professional studies and practical training in the English language. A full nursing degree programme in English was started in 2009. Our students also have the possibility to study abroad in number of countries around the world.

During the studies, theory and practice are effectively integrated by means of various pedagogical methods. The students co-operate with work-life organisations during different projects, practical training and thesis work.

Research and development

In addition to the education, the School of Health Care and Social Work is engaged in a great variety of research and development activities, often carried out in cooperation with the surrounding municipalities, health and social organisations and other educational institutions. Many of the activities are of national and international importance. Examples of our R & D projects involve the development of new interventions to promote the health and welfare of individuals and their families, and the encouragement of entrepreneurship in the health and social field.

Facilities

The School of Health Care Social Work operates on three premises: The Education of Social Work in Campus, The Education of Health Care in Koskenala near the Seinäjoki Central Hospital and the Research and Development in Mediwest (Centre of Technology near Koskenala premise). The facilities are comfortable and technically well appointed. The Student Association also contributes to the students’ welfare and helps them feel at home by arranging leisure activities in Seinäjoki.

We are doing our very best to educate health care and social work experts of high standard for the increasingly international work-life.
