Social Network Analysis of the Video Gaming Ecosystem: Dr. Bonita Russell, Dr. Bronwen Russell, Vancouver Island University, Canada

The two Dr. Russells teach in the business school at Vancouver Island University.  Dr. Bonita Russell has a PhD in Strategy from Simon Fraser University; Dr. Bronwen Russell, a PhD in Sociology from the University of Saskatchewan.  This collaborative presentation will reveal who has real influence in the video gaming ecosystem.  Their favourite video games are Seekers Notes and Portal 2.

The introduction of the university research database, Dr. Maria Ruotsalainen, University of Jyväskylä, Finland

Dr. Maria Ruotsalainen (University of Jyväskylä) will be introducing the university research database she and Dr. Tero Kerttula (University of Jyväskyvä) have been composing. The database is an unique collection of all Esports research done either in Finnish or about esports in Finland, containing also all the dissertation and theses on the topic. In addition, the database contains the international top notch research from different fields and disciplines. The researchers are also composing approachable infographies based on the articles, making the findings thus easily acccessable for larger audiences.

Differences in Onsite and Online Coaching in Esports, Perttu Leppä, Heikki Peltonen, Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences, Finland

Perttu Leppä and Heikki Peltonen work at Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences (JAMK). Perttu is a MSc in Sport & Health Sciences, and he has a successful 7 years of experience in holistic esports coaching. Heikki has a PhD in Sport & Health Sciences and more than 15 years of research experience on the physiological effects of training on performance development and its measurement in the field of sport. Currently, Perttu and Heikki are doing research on Counter Strike 2 (CS2).

Center of Expertise in Esports in Central Finland: Tuomas Rauhansalo, Senior Advisor and Project Manager, Jamk University of Applied Sciences, Finland

Mr. Rauhansalo has been spearheading the development of esports in the Central Finland region and the University of Applied Sciences since 2016, collaborating closely with colleagues and various academic and corporate partners. In his presentation, Rauhansalo will introduce the formation of the Center of Expertise in Esports in Central Finland, its network activities together with SME’s, and the opportunities it brings for fostering local esports development.
